ROOF PATTERNS

The parametric design scheme also impacts the bus shelter's aesthetics. Because of the variation in site conditions each Adaptable Bus Stop looks slightly different from another. Local patters and materials can also be incorporated into the design so that the architecture of the bus stop becomes relevant within a local cultural context. Arabic patterns from the local Aljaferya palace were used to shape cavities in the roof, which were distributed to provide maximal shade around the bench and interactive map and allow sunlight to penetrate increasingly towards the perimeter, taking advantage of the little rainfall Zaragoza sees annually. Exploring the network of bus stops throughout the city will reveal a set of different objects, each with recognizable relationship to its environment, provoking curiosity in the public and drawing attention to the bus stop (it might be good to also include a link to the close up picture of the roof from the current website).
