Hospitals in the countries most affected by COVID-19 have been struggling to increase their ICU capacity to admit a growing number of patients suffering from severe respiratory diseases. CURA aims to improve the efficiency of the existing design solutions of field hospitals, producing a compact ICU pod that is quick-to-deploy and safe to work in for medical professionals.
CURA has been developed as an open-source project, with its tech specs, drawings and design materials made accessible for everyone online. Such collective endeavour has also created an opportunity for testing new methods for international design collaboration.
Here, we have chosen 6 sites based on vulnerability to COVID-19, and potential demand of hospital beds to create configurations for the project. CURA has been developed as an open-source platform and we are asking for participants from different disciplines to fill out a survey. The following survey has been designed to evaluate different layouts of CURA Units, with the end goal of identifying the strongest configurations that would facilitate the best delivery of care for patients and safety of health care providers during emergency situations in COVID-19.
