Sweden has so far remained relatively unscathed from its more restrained approach towards handling the COVID-19 pandemic. Although, the pandemic is still unpredictable, and with speak of easement in lockdowns this could easily translate into a second wave if handled too quickly. Over the past number of years there has been heated discussion around cuts in Sweden's hospital bed numbers, which has one of the lowest bed-per-capita ratios in the developed world. The Karolinska University Hospital is one of the top-rated hospitals in Europe and is already well engaged in the fight against COVID-19. It is highly likely that such a research institute would be favourable towards exploring novel forms of transportable ICU units. The hospital is currently adjacent to a large flat area of parkland which would be able to host an additional 261 CURA pods.
